Santa Comes Early

It is already late December, which means that it’s only a few days until Santa arrives. Many of you will have been journeying home for the long-anticipated holiday, so what better time to treat yourselves to the first chapter of Booths?

As many of you will know, I am in the process of building my author profile which, for a self-publisher, can be tricky business. It might be a radical thought, but I firmly believe that you only get what you give, so, I will be releasing regular content right up until the day of release in the hope to gain a few interested followers.  I wish for nothing in return other than that you might enjoy my writing, and if you feel like, share it amongst your friends and family – as this would greatly help me in my quest to bring the finished product to shelves and e-readers.

So, without further ado, here is chapter one in its entirety. Sit back, perhaps with a mince pie and a warm drink, and enjoy!

Booths Chapter One

I hope to have whetted your appetite. If you have any thoughts or comments about the first chapter, then I would love to hear from you below.  Is Percy someone you would welcome into your home for a mug of mulled wine? Who or what is ‘the Threat’? And what’s the deal with that bloody holohead?

Remember, I will be releasing more chapters of Booths over the coming weeks, so stay tuned and check back regularly so you can stay up to date.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  1. Hi Josh – just a little feedback for you. I quite like reading books where there are various developed storylines that gradually merge to a crescendo. I anticipate that might be the case with your work – time will tell!
Initially, the descriptive mechanic of existence in the clinically controlled booth didn’t light any sparks and seemed to drag a little BUT I started wanting to know why physical exertion hurt him so, what was the threat etc. I sensed similarities with such as Logans Run (well before your time) Blade Runner / Mega-City One (Judge Dredd) re the ‘threat’ and unclean humans outside of the controlled zone, and so quite excited to see how you develop the need to work on human survival from within OR whether the whole thing is an elaborate hoax or “religious” misconception of the Chamber of Brothers. On balance I definitely liked it and on strength of chapter one would keep reading. Well done thus far.

    1. Hi John. I’m glad that you enjoyed the first chapter and I appreciate the constructive feedback. It is interesting to read your thoughts on where you think the story may be heading, but I’m sure that whatever happens you won’t be disappointed. You’ll just have to keep reading to find out if you’re right 🙂
      Thanks again,
      Josh

  2. I like the new name for the bike (cycler) and the hint of humour yet to come. This first chapter draws you in, is atmospheric and flows well. I’m very impressed and looking forward to seeing what happens to Percy in the next chapters!
